So Halloween has been and gone and productively speaking I have been quiet, well, so it would seem. I have been offering technical support for upcoming sets (which are very exciting!) and I have been showing off the Nightmare Creatures Set to my associates in the real world.....which has lead to a commission.
My commission has few rules (which works in my favour), it needs to be a werewolf with torn clothing and needs to be as gory as I can get it (my Pyramid Head sculpt anyone?). I went home and looked through google and merged some ideas together and came up with a sketch to present back to my buyer with a price tag of £60 for its completion.
The picture was well received, we shook hands and work began. I wired 2 corks together and made a medium sized armature out of 2 lengths of gardening wire.
I used a 50/50 Milliput/kneadatite mix to fill out the wire and make a basic muscle structure, a bottom jaw was added and a set of gnashers. The fur on the left leg is also completed using a pin. The trick with sculpting is to work inside out.
The plaque was bought from a charity shop with some tacky sculpture on, that was ripped off and binned. I used my hot glue gun to fix foil to the plaque to make the basic cliff edge shape and covered that with neat milliput to make a hard surface.
When set, I used neat Milliput to sculpt the water bed, cliff rocks and the flat mud top. The mud top was flocked using P.V.A glue and sand. I then painted, drybrushed and ink washed everything. The sea was sculpted using clear silicone and a lollipop stick, making wave shaped strokes.
I added green modelling flock to replicate grass. *modellers tip* paint a layer of PVA onto the surface you wish to give a grass effect to and sprinkle a generous amount of flock onto it, let it completely dry. Once set, paint a second layer of PVA glue onto the flock itself. Once that has dried it will be hard wearing and won't deteriorate over time. This same method applies to sand as well.
Werewolf has its arms and legs textured with fur using a pin. It also has torn jeans and a Fonze-style leather jacket. Just the hands, feet and head left. Always work inside-out on sculptures
The gory victim has his guts on display and his brain visible. 3:) Noticed the chunk of arm missing? That's to get the positioning right on the diarama. ...see next pic.
My old man always told me to measure twice, glue once. Wise words.
Slapping on the gore!
All done. Happy me for getting paid for my hobby, happy customer for having something handmade to give out as a present.....yeah I did get this done in time...I just didn't share the pictures on time...

Lucky the person who will decorate their desk with this beauty. Did you use gloss varnish for the leather jacket? Love your work on the Black Pearl as well!

Thanks for the kind words. That's the best thing about having a hobby such as this, it really is a labour of love. Darkones, the leather jacket and the gory bits are gloss varnished. Well spotted. Darkones and Godzilla, nice to have some support on my Pearl build. I'll keep you both up to date with that. JakJak, the best place to start is cutting up models you have and glueing them back together in a more gruesome order. That way you get a good feel for the hobby itself. Then when you become good at that play around with paints and inks. Then start using the putties to make your own disaster pieces. The community here will support you too.
Again, thanks
