Yay! Two of my all time faves were discussed in Monster Madness! Nosferatu & The Cabinet of Dr Caligai! They neglected to mention that Cabinet is also cinemas first great mind screw!

With modern film goers being so jaded, I found it amazing that the twist came on so shockingly! Brilliant film to say the least!

Indeed. Hell, I still watch the classic Universal horror cycle because of how rare a good modern horror movie is.

Those are my favorite Horror Films of all time!
Sadly modern horror film are largely gore for gore's sake. Some genres must be gory. Zombie films for example. Even the classic Night of the living dead was rather gruesome.
The greatest slasher flick to me was Psycho. You never saw anything, but you were certain you did! Brilliant.
The original Halloween had a lot of that too. Michael was killing all over the place, but you really didn't see much gore!

The only horror movie I know that uses the gore to great effectiveness is the remake of Evil Dead. Of the modern films its the only one that I have actually been horrified.

Haven't seen it. But yeah, gore is schlock not terror. Making you cringe at someone else's suffering is not scary...

You should check it out at some point. Unlike the Nightmare and Friday remakes, 2014 Evil Dead is a awesome remake.
